Atlantic Beach North Carolina
is located on Bogue Banks, a 30-mile, narrow barrier island that stretches below Morehead City. It’s the oldest of the towns located on Bogue Banks and has been the site of a beach resort since the late 1880s. What began as a small pavilion and refreshment stand slowly grew to one of the most popular vacation resorts on the East Coast. The barrier island of Bogue Banks begins in the east at Atlantic Beach and ends at Emerald Isle to the west. Bogue Sound separates Bogue Banks from the mainland and the island is connected to the mainland by two high-rise bridges, one on each end. The clean, wide beach here runs east-west, so visitors can watch the sun rise in the east over the Atlantic Ocean, and later that same day, watch the sunset. The ocean and sound beaches attract lots of visitors and summer residents, so you will find many second homes in the Atlantic Beach area, as well as condominiums, summer rental cottages, hotels and motels. Whether you are looking to relocate permanently, purchase a second home or retire, Atlantic Beach has a lot to offer.
The Bogue Banks region is made up of five townships that often seem to blend together. Atlantic Beach, at the far east end borders the seaside village of Pine Knolls Shore. Most of the development on the island, both commercial and residential, is along North Carolina Highway 58. A ride from one end to the other gives you a good overview of the island communities. Each has it’s own distinct personality and attractions. Miles of white sand beach and sparkling turquoise waters greet visitors. In Atlantic Beach you can enjoy charter boat fishing, swimming, surfing and all other types of beach activities, tennis and golf. The town’s community center offers tennis courts, full gym, yoga and aerobics classes. Easy day trips take you to the historic town of Beaufort, the North Carolina Aquarium, Core Sound Waterfowl Museum, Fort Macon State Park, the Croatan National Forest and Cape Lookout National Seashore.
Atlantic Beach offers fine restaurants featuring fresh seafood, shopping, entertainment parks and nightclubs. It’s a popular choice for vacationers, a family-oriented resort town with something fun and interesting for everyone. Hundreds of vacation rentals are available in Atlantic Beach, whether you’re interested in a modest beach cottage or a luxurious beachfront home. The cost of the properties varies greatly depending on their nearness to the ocean and golf resorts. Some are located right on the beach; others may have a short walk to the beach and pier, while others may be near shopping and restaurants. With scenic beauty and tons of coastal charm, many people spend vacations here and decide later to make a more permanent move. Whether renting or buying, you can’t really go wrong in Atlantic Beach. Many people vacation here, and end up deciding to make a more permanent move. Also remember to consider the sister communities of Pine Knoll Shores, Salter Path, Indian Beach and Emerald Isle.
