Atlantic Beach North Carolina
, along with the other nearby Crystal Coast beach communities of Pine Knoll Shores, Salter Path, Indian Beach, Emerald Isle and Amelia Island, holds dozens of special events throughout the year – especially during the busy summer season. Fort Macon State Park alone holds many of their own special events, including fishing lessons, astronomy programs, off-trail hikes, kite workshops and interpretive programs led by park rangers. A summer concert series is also held at Fort Macon State Park, beginning in June each Friday night starting at 7:00P.M. Most of these events are free of charge, although some do require pre-registration.
Other special events in Atlantic Beach include fishing tournaments, golf tournaments, sandcastle building competitions, arts & crafts and antique shows. Listed below are some of the major events found in the area:
Atlantic Beach Fishing Tournaments – including the Hardees/Atlantic Beach King Mackerel Tournament.
Beaufort-by-the-Sea Music Festival – usually held the end of April. A three-day music and arts festival that has been a tradition for over 15 years.
Woodenboat Show of the N.C. Maritime Museum – a 30-year tradition that includes demonstrations and races, usually held in May.
Blackbeard Festival and Mystery of the Sea – an annual street festival held in nearby Moorhead City in the month of June.
Harkers Island Race – organized by the North Carolina Maritime Museum. A gathering of wooden sail boats for an annual competition of skill and speed.
Fourth of July Festivities – many of the seaside communities hold fun-filled Independence Day activities. One of the most popular is the Beaufort parade and fireworks along the waterfront. An old-fashioned tradition with a potluck community picnic, parade with kids, pets, wagons, flags and music, and a fantastic fireworks display at the end of the day over the waterfront.
Civil War Reenactment at Fort Macon – Civil War period activities are performed at the Fort throughout the day. Flag talks, uniform talks, Civil War dress talks, musket firings and more.
North Carolina Seafood Festival – held the first week of October on the Morehead City waterfront. Seafood, music, entertainment, games and more fun for the whole family.
The Carolina Kite Fest in Atlantic Beach – a two-day schedule of kite-flying demos and activities, usually held near the end of October.
Atlantic Beach Christmas Parade in early December
Crystal Coast Christmas Flotilla – yachts and workboats are decorated for a waterfront parade at the Morehead City and Beaufort waterfronts.
